It’s neatness could be your choice. Slice the loose ends of the knot at 45° angles or strap tape the seams shut. Crease the edges crisp or patch the holes with sewn in rags. If people come looking for answers, claim the box is yours, unopened. The only “why’s” you might answer derive from yourself and no longer from their stare. After all, the only answer you’ll need is why you might share.
